Decibel moved into the playground

Today Decibel's code was moved inside the KDE SVN repository. It is now in playground/pim, which is a much more visible place than the original branches/work. Please remember to update your setup if you are using our sources fresh out of SVN.

We are very excited about this move:-)

Decibel at Google Summer of Code 2007

Participating as part of the KDE project in Google's Summer of Code 2007 we have some interesting topics a student could work on. The complete list of KDE related suggestions can be found here.

Decibel Hackathon

During the weekend we had our Decibel Hackathon in Darmstadt, Germany. With representatives of the Akonadi, Khalkhi and Kopete project in attendance as well as a developer from Skype we were able to discuss the KDE4 contact data handling. this data is used by Decibel, which is also a mayor source for its updates, so this area is of huge importance to our work.

During our two days of discussion all of use were able to develop a firm grasp on how all components will work together and what each project requires of the others. I am very pleased with the results of our meeting.

We even managed to update the Decibel buildsystem to handle the -fvisibility=hidden flag as set by the KDE4 buildsystem in one of the (few) coffee breaks and fix some minor issues.

Decibel CTI improvements

Decibel was able to use control my phone today to ring up one of my contacts. This was done using the computer telephone integration Connection Manager for SNOM VoIP phones I have implemented earlier. This Connection Manager is still pretty experimental, but it does handle incoming and outgoing connections just fine.
